10 Tips for Healthy, Clear Skin

I struggled with skin issues for a long time. I've tried all trends, products, weird remedies and diets to see if anything worked. Listening to my body and what works for me was high, and finally I've found balance. I am sharing my top tips below:
1. GO NATURAL - Keep the toxins off your skin which can damage it and cause more issues, use natural ingredients instead that are full of nutrients that benefit skin and your overall health. Check out the Think Dirty App, or Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database for information on what ingredients are in your products and the effect they have on your health.
2. CLEANSE - Take a few minutes to cleanse well, or even double cleanse. I am a fan of oil cleansing first, to get dissolve makeup and dirt off my skin, followed by a gel cleanser to make sure all the oil has been removed. It’s important to make sure that all that makeup & dirt from the day comes off so pores are clean before bed. Usually, cleansing only once a day, at night to remove makeup, is enough. You can tone or splash face with water in the morning.
3. DRINK WATER - Drink like WAY more water than you think. It helps hydrate the skin, but also get toxins out of the body. Set goals to drink water all day, except right before or during meals (drinking water before/during meals dilutes stomach acid and hinders digestion).

4. HEALTHY FATS - Important for healthy skin, as they help heal, hydrate & reduce inflammation in the skin. Every cell contains healthy fats, so including them in your diet help to improve the integrity of the skin.
5. EXFOLIATE - A few times a week, use a natural exfoliant to get all the dead skin cells off your face, which will reduce congestion & leave you glowing. It will also allow makeup to sit better on the skin.
6. MASK! - Using a mask (whether it's a sheet, powder etc) once a week will help your skin stay balanced. Choose a mask that suits your specific skin concerns (I’m a fan of a detoxifying clay mask or soothing mask).
7. LESS SUGARS & PROCESSED FOODS - Yes this includes dairy. These foods cause inflammation and have really no nutritional value. Cutting sugar, processed foods and dairy from your diet, you will notice a difference quickly.
8. MORE VEGGIES - Vegetables provide tons of vitamins, minerals, water and fibre, without sugars. Water and fibre help to get toxins out of the body.
9. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY- More is not always better, especially when it comes to your skin. Try to keep it minimal so that you don’t overload the skin, focusing on good quality products with good, clean ingredients. Read all ingredients in your products, and know what you're putting on your skin.
10. FIND THE RIGHT PRODUCTS FOR YOU - I’ve tried a ton of skin products and it takes a lot of trial and error to find out what works for your skin. Research products, try different things, ask companies questions if you have them.
Bonus Tip: KEEP SKIN MOISTURIZED - I love to apply an oil and a cream, especially during the winter months. When my skin starts to dry out, I notice that it will start to break out. Look at oils that are best for your skin type, whether it be dry, mature, sensitive etc. And remember, oil dissolves oil, so natural plant oils are actually good for your skin, and won't cause your skin to become more oily (* fyi there is a bit of an adjustment period)

Keep in mind, everyone’s skin is different, and what works for one person will not necessarily be the answer for someone else. there’s different kinds of acne (clogged pores, whiteheads, blackheads, cystic etc). Also, look up face mapping (in my stories) if you want to see what part of your face has acne & what may be a cause.
